As with any structure it is important to provide a firm, level and square base for your new garden building. Without a suitable base your building will be unstable and deteriorate rapidly. Base preparation need not be elaborate and two simple alternative methods are suggested. Other materials can be employed, whatever method you choose it is important that the end result is above all firm, level and square
Floor Bearers
Treated timber or concrete Floor Bearers laid across the run of the flooring joists (see right) provide a simple alternative to a paved base. Level the overall area, removing turf or other vegetable matter. Then lay bearers one at each end and equally spaced between, ensuring that each bearers is level to the next by using a spirit level.
